United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 V8 Santorini Black
Aftermarket DRL light problem

Hi, I have just fitted some Hella Daytime Running Lights complete with relay/control box to my 2011 range rover vogue se TDV8 today but I have a strange problem. I connected power and earth from DRL control box direct to battery + and - as the instructions said. When I start the enine the lights come on as they are supposed to do but when the engine e is off the DRL come on everytime I open a door or lock/unlock vehicle. I would be very grateful if anybody can shed some light on why the lights come on when I open a door or lock/unlock vehicle and how to cure this problem as I am baffled.

The lights are supposed to sense the increase in voltage when vehicle engine starts and turn on DRL.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I suspect that it's the wire you have tapped in to, to feed the DRL's... I used a wire in the main ECU box to feed mine Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

this type of drl switch is voltage sensitive so when you lock/unlock it trips the switch....

i have my 'norma'l drl switch wired to an ignition feed and also to the headlight feed so when you put the headlights on the drls go off.. ... - .- -.

Rolling Eyes I know that they is different Whistle just couldn't find anyone who'd added DRL's on a later ffrr and posted about it Whistle

As far as I know the later ffrr's still have a black box under the lid.. equipped with a multi meter it shouldn't be too hard to find a feed... also the feed that I used stays live for about 15 seconds after the key has been removed.. so wait a wee while before trying another wire Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... As you have connected to the battery +ve and -ve terminals I be inclined to go back to your supplier and ask them.

Wonder if it's looking for the voltage to go above 12 volts to turn on the lights.. as the ffrr sits at a slightly higher voltage at rest, it could go a long way to explaining your blinking lights Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Hi all, Thanks for All your kind comments, it's sounds like I will have to find an ignition live instead of the battery terminals. Reading instructions the relay box looks for voltage to rise above 12v to trigger relay to turn lights on.

Thanks again for your help.

As suspected, the ffrr's sit at 12.5volts minimum, with the car's ECU's cutting in and out there are voltage fluctuations for about 30 minutes after it's been locked Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
