United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Baltic Blue
Nearside Screen wiper packed up

Hello all

Last week the passenger side windscreen wiper packed up. having removed the central air intake box from the engine compartment (surprisingly easy too do), I could see that the arm from the driven arm had detached from the passenger wiper arm. A simple push fit appeared to cure the problem - well at lest for a few days.

Packed up again tonight. Big Cry

Does anyone know if there is a proper bolt fixing (which may have disappeared) or is it that simply a push fit friction fitting that has worn? It looks like the female and male parts are very much an integral part of the arms which could be PITA to change?

I'm gong to look at drilling and bolting if all else fails.

I had exactly the same happen to me on my 2002 TD6. I was in the outside late of the M4 doing about 70mph (!) in pouring rain. The passenger wiper stayed in the middle of the screen, being bashed by the driver side wiper which was continuing to run at full speed. After about 20 sec, the driver side wiper blade broke free and went flying over the roof. Not an experience to be repeated.

The linkage is just a push fit and both mine were very worn. I drilled them and put a bolt through with washers and a nylock nut. It solved the problem, but the wiper mech was never quite the same. There was always some play and I really should have replaced the whole thing. From memory, I think mine had done about 150k miles at the time of the failure. Current: 2010 Range Rover L322

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Zermatt Silver

I have had the same thing happen at 70mph on the motorway, managed to move the near side wiped out of the way and continued home. They are simple push fit onto a ball joint. LR do not sell the 50p piece which wears, only a complete new level Noah's with motor for abou £200....

Gravity plays a part, so I just pulled the other end off, reversed it and pushed back on. Must have done 10k miles since with no problem. A windscreen wiper repair clip would work but I've not found one big enough. Will probably drill and bolt my necwhen it eventually fails again.... 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

Thanks for the feedback - bolting it is then.

I'm not sure if it is actually possible to release the ball joint to reverse as above - all looks a bit solid to me.

Yes Joe it does rain here - twice so far this year. Once for 3 months and once for 6 months!! Thumbs Up 405 AB exec seats Baltic and Cirrus

There's Is a repair option which locks the ball in the socket.

You can get them off of ebay I think looked at it before when some one posted up with a broken wiper linkage. Will see if I can find it.

This is the one I remember, but seems no one got any in the right size. But a fix was achieved by reversing the arm. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Thanks NMJ.

Carried out the repair yesterday. 2mm HSS drill bit and some 2mm wire. drill hole - wire through and tie up. copious amounts of copper grease and job done.

it helps that the motion is only side to side and not a full rotation. .
