Was there a year when L322 reliability became acceptable?

Was there a year when P322 reliability became acceptable? As in, as reliable as a normal car? I'm not expecting perfection but not a constant nag of nigles with the odd expensive failure

I have a budget of £35k to buy a rr, can get a 2012 Westminster for that price. Looking at 4.4 tdv8.

I'm seriously put off by reliability stories though but most of what I read on here and other fora seems to concern older higher milage cars.

I'm looking at ones with under 40k miles on and we do about 8k a year. No interest in petrol as the range and consumption make it too annoying.

Was there a year when they sorted these cars out, when tata / jlr made enough investment to fix the niggles? Was the 8 speed zf box solid or do they still lunch themselves?

We've had a 2012 evoque for 18 months and it's solid but is that cos it's an all new model?

I can't be doing with a car that's always developing annoying faults as our other family car is a porsche 997 and it's too much of a squeeze for 4 of us even juat for emergencies !!!

What are the common faults & cost to remedy?

Is it a certain year, or just to many neglected cars? I don't know. I have had a few FFRRs and never a problem. Doing about 10 to 15 k mls a year, these cars have never let me down. I buy with max 60k on the counter and sell around 80 to 90 k mls. One was petrol and the others were all on lpg....and funny, never bought one from a dealer. Succes with the search! Thumbs Up

I read that over time faults were ironed out as the model was around for 10 years and saw a change in ownership however were they ironed out to a level that was good for P38 owners? Or were they actually ironed out to an acceptable level compared to other reliable vehicles?

As to your question... 4.4TDV8’s are proving quite a lot less problematic than the 3.6... Less EGR & Turbo issues BUT!!! Still bits drop off, rust, stop working weekly etc etc etc... But then, if we all wanted reliability! We would all be driving Volvo’s no? Ah yes, that lack of soul Whistle Whistle Whistle

I have had my l322, after various others , for 3 years I do about 25k a year and have replaced bits that have worn out and I spend money keeping it serviced properly and guess what it has never let me down in fact every RR I have owned has been fine once I got it up to spec and maintained it so I guess buy one and put it right it should give you no more trouble than any other car - mind you mine gets used I don't think any vehicle likes just sitting week after week then the rot sets in

Range? I'm happy with the range of my 4.4 petrol on a trip. I easily get over 600km. What's that - 1 fill up between the equivalent of Lands End and John O'Groats - or in my case, 1 fill between Sydney and Melbourne or Sydney and Brisbane? Ron B. VK2OTC

they all reliable if you get a good one and use common sense preventive maintenance...i had a td6, a SC and now a westie and mine were ok..

because of the complexities of my current westie i did make sure i purchased from a main dealer to take advantage of the 2 year warranty.. ... - .- -.

Australia 2008 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Atacama Sand

My 08 tdv8 L322 has 255,000 km. I consider it very reliable.

I replaced the transmission/TC & alternator in the last 10-15,000km. They are probably the biggest cost repairs in its history. Neither is unique to Land Rover.

Before that was the thermostat housing, EAS compressor and intercooler (that's weird - I think there's a typo in the history).

I've disabled the EGRs on my L322 and continued it's excellent service history.

Turbo hoses seem to go more frequently on the 3.6 than the 4.4 tdv8.

I think Ford made significant reliability improvements in the Land River range (other than maybe the Defender). The last of the L322 tdv8s seem to be a well sorted vehicle and as reliable as any other. I haven't heard of many problems on either the 6 or 8 speed ZF. A complete and on time service history is essential for these cars. ______________________________

Yep, you're on the money there Stan. Dealer 2 year warranty is essential IMHO.

The last of the L322 model were about the best sorted ones but it does carry the Green Oval so they are perfectly capable of having a hissy fit. Laughing

Bear in mind that the maximum age for the Approved Used warranty is 5 years so you need to be looking at 2012 registered cars so that will limit the scope a bit. The up side of that is that something approaching the age will be bad news to a dealer. If it runs over whilst it's on their forecourt they can't warranty the thing so if you stumble on one that's about to become 5 years old you have much haggle room.

Here's a nice looking one (if you ignore the nasty aftermarket tints) Low mileage, green with tan which is a bit marmite. Fine looking motor though.
