Old converter was made in Germany by Sachs and new was just made by Sachs. Couldn't find any time stamps. Took off the oil pan and filter. Less shavings in magnets than 730d had with exploded a-drum and cracked valve body. Well RR moved 10m back and front without jerks or other abnormal activity. Very Happy That is the longest test drive I have had with it. What I am worried that there was some aluminium chunks in the pan. Is that omen of nearing catastrophy?

Filter had only this stamp. No other markings. Maybe model number more than time stamp?

Mine didn't have many fillings either but I did find a piece of plastic under the magnet and no ideas where that came from 😳 2004 RR 4.4 V8 Autobiography

paulM -post the picture of the piece of plastic from your sump.. your chain guides are made of plastic.
you might want to consider removing the small dif/sump protector, and remove the lower sump. maybe witha gasket to hand.... this will tell you if you have any major chain guide plastic parts, too big to exit the sump drain plug. they are a white nylon colour.
not trying to alarm you, just inform you..

Valve block seems to be ok. No crack visible in the usual place. Smile

It works! Very Happy Runs so quietly that whining power steering pump needs to be addressed next. Rolling Eyes

Renewed o-rings to coolant hose connectors but forgot the note in garage. Need to write size of those here before that piece of paper is lost. Laughing -08 3.6 Vogue

There is a guy on eBay that sell a kit with all the O rings for the RR and other cars. He is in the US. Kit was cheaper than buying individually. Incredible job guy.

That's good to know. I couldn't find him from eBay. Bad search keywords I guess. Very Happy

Here is what I know about those o-rings.
Top/Bottom coolant hoses. 38x4mm (4pcs)
Smaller hoses to transmission oil cooler 16x3mm (5pcs)
Alternator connectors 12x3mm (2pcs)

Rest were untouched so I didn't change those. Lazy. Rolling Eyes Hose in back of the engine with o-ring was renewed so that size was not measured. -08 3.6 Vogue

If your arms still have some strength, then, reach round, and pat yourself on the back, whilst you fill the fridge with rewarding beers.
You've done a great job there. And you know that your work, will give you piece of mind, and a smile every time you get in the car.
I did the chain guides, and vanos seals, along with a tidy up, all in situ. And now my valley pan job seems all good now too.
My engine still sounds sweet, and still quite clean looking. With 25k extra miles since.
Enjoy your Rangie. -you will soon realise that there is no other car, that comes close!

Thanks guys. Cool Back patting has to wait until overdue MOT inspection is passed. Laughing

There is still something to do before that.
- rear brakes (disks, pads, shoes, hoses)
- overall corrosion check on rear underside. Front was quite well oiled. Very Happy
- rear diff oil change

After MOT jobs:
- cleaning
- drivers door card leather repaint
- more cleaning
- steering wheel painting
- drivers seat leather painting (possibly)
- upper tailgate corrosion fix (hide&slow down)
- ignition lock wants some lubrication
- middle console cup holder wont lock down
- cd changer to something better
- reversing camera (had that in P38 and can't imagine life without it) Mr. Green
- and all those extra tasks that are found in inspection. Laughing -08 3.6 Vogue
