Rear door glass removal ? Any suggestions..

Finally got round to investigating why my rear near side window doesn't work.
Dirty great big self tapper holding it up. Screw removed and widow drops.
Regulator cable is chewed at the motor end.
Only obvious way to get the regulator out is with the glass removed but that appears to a bit challenging Sad

Has anyone completed this task ? Any tips ?
I'm hoping to recoil the cable. But will get a new regulator if that fails.

But would still need to know how to get to the two top bolts which are behind the glass regardless of where it is in the runners. Current: Supercharged 06 FFRR in Java Black

Don't bother trying to re-coil the wire. get a second hand Regulator from a Breaker (c.£30) and replace. You will have to take the whole door card out and the quarter light in the Door frame to get the glass out IOT replace the regulator.

So... Finally got round to getting Rave and checking out the details of window removal.... Shocked Confused
Not 100% convinced it's a driveway job Sad
Does anyone have experience of cutting out and refitting the rear quarter light glass ? All the nuts and bolts, trim etc are straightforward enough..... Current: Supercharged 06 FFRR in Java Black

Stew, it is absolutely a driveway job. I am no mechanic but followed RAVE and managed to take the window out, replace the regulator and install everything to working state. You can do it if I can!! Thumbs Up

To remove the rear quarter glass pane, you have to remove the interior of the black upright support. This allows access to the screws to remove the upright. You should be able to remove the small glass 1/4 pane. This then allows you the space to be able to remove the whole glass pane.

You have to have lowered the window to the bottom beforehand if I remember correctly.

Good luck!

Excellent thanks for the response.... Rave shows the quarter light getting cut out and resealed afterwards... This put me off. I take it that's not going to be a required step and removing the channel/runner between the main glass and the quarter light provides enough space to get the glass out ? Current: Supercharged 06 FFRR in Java Black

Australia

I recently stripped a door for the glass, winder, and lock, etc. with a view to throwing the door out. Yes, removal of the quarter glass is a cutting exercise.

In fact, I'd given up on stripping out the quarter glass and was putting the door out in the street for the scrappie to pick up when I saw a windscreen repairer working on neighbour's car. I asked him and he came over and cut the pane out. He used a cutting wire to do it.

I can't remember all the steps as I wasn't planning to rebuild the door but to get the main glass out, I removed the channel. I'm pretty sure I had to remove the glass to get the winder mechanism out. Ron B. VK2OTC

So job done.... 2nd hand regulator obtained via eBay £29... Less than hour all in. The rear quarter does not need to come out. The trim between the 2 pieces of glass frees the seal enough for the main glass to lift straight out....
Thanks everyone Cool

The Video posted is great but as per the note earlier in the thread you do not need to take the seal all the way out as per ty video shows just removing the trim between the two bits of glass and tweaking the seal a bit gives you enough room to remove the large pain of glass.
