a query for all of you that are mechanically minded...when i'm in low range and i brake i get a very loud rubbing/grinding noise, now would that be my brakes making that noise or is there a transmission brake of sorts in low range... ... - .- -.

i forgot to add that sometimes in normal high range i get the same noise but much quieter so what you have just said richard confirms my thoughts that the brakes need doing on the back....must be the brakes struggling with the increased torque.... btw are the shoes used when using the foot brake or only the discs... ... - .- -.

Correct, all the older LR models had the handbrake at the rear of the transfer box in typical LR fashion. Modern LR vehicles are as standard car set up |

Even with new pads all round mine still makes a lot of noise when in low range and using the brakes.
