Sorry to be negative, and what do I know anyway, but I think I would have kept the Defender

In truth I miss my D3, it was superb and did everything I asked of it. The FF is a nicer cabin but not my much. My 2.7 D3 was remapped and the FF doesn't feel much "quicker" - they tow pretty much identically. I had more confidence in my D3 than I do in the FF with many things.

Ahh, BUT, Nick... Both Adam & I have late generation 322’s and my wifey has a facelifted D3 so i get to drive it often... The later model 322 is a further step on from the 3.6 in terms of comfort, power, refinement of ride etc etc... Im not so sure you would feel the same way about D3’s if you drove a last of the line 322 for a while sir

You have a much more civilised car that you could actually take on the motorway if required without permanent ear damage and at half the cost....no brainier!
I have both a full fat and a deafener, so speak from some experience!
The reason we have a third car is that 'Vera' is very much just a local car. Fun, endearing and robust but not something you want to drive for much more than 10 miles a time!  2012MY Range Rover 4.4 TDV8 Vogue...now gone!

That's exactly the point. The Defender is one of the coolest looking 4WDs out there, and is incredibly god fun to improve and bolt stuff to, but I could only cope with shorter journeys. Anything over 15 minutes and I started to hate the drive of it. The size of it and lack of space was limiting for me.

On a shoot day, with the D3, I can take more gear and carry more people, ride in as much comfort as the RR, and enjoy the journey. The D3 is a cracking car, a fine line between luxury and practicality, no nonsense and totally capable. It's smoother, quieter and nicer to be in than the Deafener, cheaper to insure, less likely to be stolen off my drive and doesn't leak water in and rust before my eyes every day.

Not really, I put a D4 style front grille on it (just waiting on the larger size black and silver oval badge to arrive to complete that one), and I changed the bonnet lettering and rear lettering and lights.

A full D4 upgrade can cost up to about £7k, and I've decided not to do that, the whole point of this exercise was to have a car that cost less than the Defender, not the same, or more. I'm just doing modest cosmetic upgrades so it has had:

Colour coded door handles covers, wing mirror covers, D4 style side vent, Rear tailgate handle cover and a D4 style colour coded grille.

It's also has smoked side repeaters, D4 LED rear light units in black.

It will at some point get a new set of 19" alloys done in the same finish as the RR (they look black but its metallic anthracite) with new General Grabber AT tyres which will improve it off road over the shooting season.

I think I am more excited about this car than I was about the Defender.  Discovery 4 HSE

I disagree. Electrical problems aren't hugely common beyond a dodgy brake bulb or switch, or cruise control loom. You may get the occasional poor connection or chaffed wire, but the D3 electrics are very good on the whole. A few have issues with the head unit/navigation/amp etc. but they are not all that common. The ECUs don't normally fail unless there is water ingress.  Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

My L322 is the same 'series' as my D3 was so it's a like for like scenario. If I drove a newer 322 with a 4.4 OR A 5.0 I'm sure there you're right and I'd see a difference but what if it were like for like and we compared to a later D4 with the SDV6 3.0?....

I'm just not feeling the love at the moment with mine, a weekend of 2 buckets and some nice polish will sort my head out  Is this where I put the car details and a bit about myself ?........
