L322 v L405 dimensions

i've been overtaken by the L405 a few times and get the impression that its bigger than the L322 that i'm driving so i perused topix and found the dimensions of both..

L322 W,2216 H,1865 L,4967 W-B,2880
L405 W,2220 H,1835 L,4999 W-B,2922

L494 W,2220 H,1780 L,4850 W-B,2923

so the L405 width is roughly the same and the height is lower by 30mm and even the wheel base of the L405 is only 42mm wider, would this give the illusion that the L405 is bigger?

i've also included the L494 dimensions as a comparison.. ... - .- -.

I think it's the slightly higher waist line that makes it look bigger, the Ewok looks big on it's own until you put it next to something, and I'm sure that's because it's got a very high waist line... Pete

Shocked wow - I'm really surprised - I always thought the L494 was L322 size & the L405 was bigger.

Even in the picture at the top left of this page, the L405 looks longer... I wonder if the tapered rear windows add to the effect.

L405 looks longer cause of the higher leading edge of the bonnet makes the general body shape longer (look at the pic above in top left) . . .the bumpers are similar position, but the bonnet comes further out before cutting down. Similarly, the rear body comes further rearward at the tailgate with less of a step outwards the bumper. So the end to end dimensions are similar, but where the L322 has stepped out bumpers the L405 has less, instead replacing it with longer body panels. You're body panel wise probably gaining about 4cm rear, 4cm front, plus 3cm in overall lenth . . . adds up to at least 10cm longer in body panel along the waistline, which you would visually notice.

Also, the shallower rake of the windscreen visually elongates the front half of the vehicle compared to the L322.

That being said, in real life, the L405 does look and feel bigger than the L322. V8 or else ...

its all in the shape Stan,

there is a bit of a stretch in the WB length but its less than 2", if you actually park one next to the other then there is not a lot in it, its perception of size rather than actual physical bulk. Thumbs Up There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

The 405 is a tighter fit to get into a single garage as the mirrors don't fold in as much (2073mm as against 2034). That leaves about 1" on either side in my garage for the 405 - a bit uncomfortable. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Doesn't the L405 come in long wheel base option aswell. ?
Giving extra leg room in the rear seats?

wow - I must be the only person that thinks the L322 "looks" bigger and has far more road presence than the 405. Shocked

Maybe its the squarer angles.
