Shorter front number plate

Hi has anyone taken the front number plate holder off of a 2010 to 2012 and put a shorter number plate on, if so can you post a pic of the finished result ,I know the holes will need filling and painting, and do you think this will set the parking sensors off? I have a 4 digit plate and I think they look a bit daft on the standard size plate ( just my thoughts of course) thanks berty Thumbs Up

The standard size number plate is not a legal requirement it's just the spacing and gaps that are, so in my case 4 digits I can legally go to a much shorter plate, thanks for the pic Thumbs Up

Hi Berty, I have a smaller plate (5 digits) and had the same problem and it did look a bit rubbish. I then spotted on ebay a number plate plinth from ebay usa for their Range Rover sport variant as they have smaller plates. Hope you can see it on this pic.

Darren.

Unnecessary quote removed

Nowt illegal about that/my plate Stan...........

Only legal requirement is the minimum of the top & bottom size (10-15mm) on both ends and the BS number... Thumbs Up

So the length depends on number sizes Thumbs Up

Yes I was thinking the same thing about losing the plinth may look a bit bland, also which border (if any) and I'm looking at 3D resin plates and can't decide if there to much or will look good, just wish I could have black and silver ones but that's far from legal unless I move to Guernsey, I want to keep the plates legal, but retain a classy look as opposed to the boy racer look if that makes sense decisions decisions Laughing

Erm so they could encoparate the short plate look onto a black background on a full size plate for the font meaning I could keep the plinth, decisions just getting harder Laughing

IMHO, short plates look the dogs on the front. Back, less so.

If you zoom right in, you may be able to see that I took off the original mount, cut out a section from the middle and then fixed the 2 pieces back together. As the plastic is soft, they blend very well, only showing a faint joint line hidden by the plate itself.

Fortunately, i'd just had a 2007 to 2010 facelift / conversion done, so I asked the conversion company not to fix the plate on the new bumper when they'd completed their work, leaving me with a hole free bumper ready to do the mount and plate myself. GONE 2010 Facelifted 3.6 TDV8 - Stornoway Grey + 22" Overfinch Olympus
