TD6 EGR Bypass Query.

Having fitted a EGR Bypass unit to my 2002 Vogue some months back I was wondering if anybody out there who has done this mod has also removed the exhaust cooler assembly complete, blanking off the opening left in the exhaust manifold and made plugs to blank the coolant pipes coming from either side of the water pump? I see no reason why this cannot be done as there seems to be no electronics associated with any of these components. The reason I ask is I am faced with doing the dreaded Thermostat replacement and with these parts removed perminently the job becomes slightly easier and you do away with the EGR Thermostat as well. Any advise would be welcome thanks.

See what happens when your EGR thermostat is always open Shocked

Me, I would leave all this well alone (but I am old, sad and cautious), also can't see how one would benefit?

That said I do run my TD6 without the viscous fan fitted Embarassed .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

I've not considered taking the cooler out but have considered disconnecting the inlet pipe and fitting a bung inside it and then reconnecting it. Certainly one way not to have to worry about whether the EGR thermostat is working or not.

NDF that's something I've thought about as well...

I've done the same as Joe90, albeit it's been done since the car was about 6years old and not notice any real issues. Mine was done when the viscous coupling siezed up and I looked at a replacement. Finding out its only really needed if you do a lot of heavy towing or use the car in hot climates I took the chance living in the U.K. And not towing more than a trailer with car on occasionally 👍 FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

It is absolutely do-able. I cant remember the name of the poster but if you do a search in the AULRO.com l322 section there is a full how to with pictures to remove the whole kit and caboodle using a couple of hose blanking pieces. If I was ever to take the rad and fan out I would do the same. 2007 TDV8 VSE

Grr you have to join to see the pictures Sad

Best get signing up I guess as I'll do this soon to get rid of it as even after the main stay has been replaced I forgot to test mine when doubt other bits and reckon it's faulty as my engine runs cool for a good while recently and I'm sure it warmed up quicker Sad FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Thanks Wayneg and all others who contributed to this query. Will be changing a duff? main thermostat in the next weeks so will remove all EGR gubins at the same time. As I have machining facilities will make up the various plugs and exhaust blanking plate required.

Sorry for the hijack but are you running your td6 with just the fan disconnected or do you have kenlow fitted is there any benefit from having the fan disconnected.

No viscous coupling or fan.
Every FF has a massive electric fan up front that has three speeds anyway and if use aircon that should almost always be at low speed.

Advantage is the engine isn't always spinning it so better mpg and throttle response and one less thing to worry about. Also makes future water pump replacement much easier! FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's

Ideally you need two viscous fan removal spanners, they are quite long and thin but you need to grip both nuts, one in the pump and the other on the viscous unit and if it's the original unit they are going to be well stuck together 😥 FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
