The car does not open if the battery is flat. You could try a new battery in the key (or the spare key), on 2012 it is a C2032, maybe 2011 the same, but the car should give you a warning message on the screen some time before the key battery fails, so car battery is more likely if you have had no warning. I found the handbook method of getting in with a flat battery, prising off passenger door handle and opening using metal key inside key into hole underneath impossible, but LRA did eventually manage it, presumably there is a knack to it. It does need a lot of power to prime the system/fire up computers etc, and then start the 4.4 diesel. I was told that one of the reasons that LRA moved from using D4s to VW vans for recovery work was the higher battery output of the VWs for jump starting. RRs do seem prone to battery draining faults, so you might want to check for that as well as replacing the battery if it no longer holds enough charge. Only Range Rovers since 1988 |
