I lifted the floor mat in the front passenger footwell and found that the carpet was wet and extended about half way from the door to wards the centre tunnel. As far as I can tell the wet does not extend up the front of the footwell and is not in the rear or under the seat. I have tested the sunroof drain by pouring in a bottle of water that exits under the car (just behind the passenger front wheel) with a good flow so presume that the drain is not blocked. No sign of water behind the panel in the footwell and the door seals appear good. I poured water around the seals with the door open and again when shut and no obvious leaks seen (kitchen paper put around the inside of the seal)

Water is clean and clear water with no colour or smell.

Any ideas where water could be getting in apart from the drains or seal.

PS no new screen etc fitted and not been in any water higher than the bottom of the cills despite all the rain. There is a difference between knowing your sh!t and knowing you're sh!t

i think it was ed china that put a smoke machine inside a car and watched for the smoke outside...this would probably find the leak but i appreciate not every one has a smoke machine in their garage.. ... - .- -.

Have you checked the ac condensate drains?

I had a split pipe for rear washwipe that ran inside car on a bmw x5 dont know about rangies

Check the drain holes/tubes for the sunroof are clear. You will find them at the very corners of the drain channel on the sunroof.
There are some threads here about clearing them. Our drivers side carpet was wet, cleared the drain tubes and all ok now.

There are two exit points on either side of the car sir... Under the A pillar and under the B pillar... If you poured in water and it only came out of the forward drain, pound to a pinch the rear one is blocked and parking the nose uphill will make the rear one leak into the floor in navy rain...

Does that mean that there is another pair of drain holes at the rear edge of the sunroof opening? We always park our RR reversed onto the drive so the nose is always pointing downwards so only checked the drain holes at the front edge.

Do the sunroof drains work when the sunroof is closed onto it's seal?
Is the seal not water-proof?
I thought they only worked when the roof was open however minimal the opening.
My sunroof certainly looks water-tight when it's shut.

Yes NDFI the drains are made to work constantly (when it rains!)

The seal is mainly there to keep wind noise to a minimum...

The tray below the glass collects rain water which drips past the rubber seal and sends it down the 4 tubes to the floor, so in essence the sunroof is built to leak and the tray system is built to manage that leak!

unfortunately the autumn sends organic matter down the tubes which clogs them occasionally! Hence they block/leak more in the winter...

Never knew that.
I assumed that as I rarely open the sunroof the drains weren't in use and were therefore unlikely to block.
Next dry day a bit of preventative maintenance is in order to flush them through.

The next dry day, pour some water SLOWLY onto the sunroof glass and let it run around the seal. I say SLOWLY so as it does not run past the seal across the roof and drip. Then look under the car and you should see drips under the A pillar & B pillar. Bare in mind, it may take a fair bit of water to get all of the drains draining! And if one is slightly blocked it may take a fair amount of water before it will start to drip
