No Phone LED

Looked but can't find any similar posts.

Regular 2002 head unit with sat nav. Upgraded the telephone ULF a year ago for a Bluetooth module and been working fine.

Today I couldn't answer the phone using the steering wheel button, then noticed the normally green flashing light on the top of the head unit was doing nothing, I remember before I upgraded it was always a red flashing light but that also was gone, just dead. Checked fuse 8 & 22, all fine and everything else is working. The white "telephone" text does nothing on selecting
And I'm now stuck what else to check if anyone has any pointers ? 2002 Vogue 4.4 V8

If the text on the screen is still white, as oppose to grey, then I think that indicates the unit had identified itself on the ibus.

I don't really get the led lights on much. The red one comes on if my phone dies whilst connected to the car.

Short of going through all the connections, cleaning the connector, checking for water ingress.....I'm not sure what to suggest. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

10 months on and I still have not sorted this so took the plunge and bought another 2nd hand ulf. Thankfully went for a gen3 to keep the price down in case it didn't work cos guess what.........it didn't.

So I have no water ingress, presumably ok ulf, white telephone text but no flashing lights and no Bluetooth. Confused

I don't want to change the head unit as I have DSP & want to keep. Would love to have a working phone though 2002 Vogue 4.4 V8

Tried that, the trouble is there's no pairing mode and no flashing LEDs but the text is white. I've wired in a switch previously as mentioned and it was all working fine till a few months ago.

Do you think it's worth changing the Bluetooth antenna ? 2002 Vogue 4.4 V8

Yeh, I tried that, thanks for the help.

I might just try a new antenna. I see one on eBay for £15, I suppose it's worth a go.

Thinking of the wiring diagram, I imagine the ulf is connected to the head unit and the antenna and power and there's not much else could be wrong.

I had a look on eBay for a replacement head unit. I thought they'd just be a few quid but seems there's quite a market for them. It wouldn't make sense to pay that kind of money, may as well just get an android unit for a bit more. 2002 Vogue 4.4 V8

I don't believe it's connected to the head unit as such, the head unit has its own firmware loaded but it's driven through the sat nav if I remember right. The options in the menus for dsp and telephone etc are shown if that unit identifies itself on the ibus. If you disconnect the ulf does the telephone text change to grey, may take a few mins.

If you connect the ulf again and the text goes white, then the ulf is receiving power and is on the ibus.

Not sure how much could have changed if it was working before......

You should be able to get it into pairing mode without the antenna, so a new antenna prob won't help.

Strange one....... 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

There is a bit on here about removing and replacing fuses, though I can imagine it'd be easier to unplug the ulf overnight.

Yeh very strange.

Disconnected the ulf, text turns to grey, reconnect, turns back to white.

The mention of sat nav is a clue though as it was playing up before. Maybe a red herring though but I disconnected it once it had powered down, ckeaned & checked the connectors, plugged back in but still the same.

If I could find more info on the LED,s on the head unit, what they mean, what powers them, that might give us more pointers 2002 Vogue 4.4 V8

Thanks for the manual.

Left the ulf unplugged overnight but still the same this morning.

Come to think of it, battery was out a few weeks ago for a new alternator so I suppose that's the equivalant of pulling all the fuses.

Gonna have a look at some BMW forums and also double check my re wired ulf plug in case of any loose wires. 2002 Vogue 4.4 V8

The only other way to force pairing mode or look at other bits is by using navcoder. You will prob have to buy the full version and the lead. Pity you are not nearer......
