United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Westminster 4.4 V8 Zermatt Silver
Front Tyre Wear 2012 Westminster TDV8.

Vredstein Wintrac Extreme, 255/50/20.

Tyres have covered 10,000 miles since fitting. All of the tyres have worn evenly and still have in excess of 7mm tread depth, however the front outside edges are showing signs of wear and have probably lost another 3mm more than the rest of the treads.

I realise that edge wear is always going to be greater due to scrub and turn in, however before I blow £80 plus on a four-wheel alignment I wanted to get a general feel as to whether this is a normal feature of a 2.7 tonne car?!

How does yours wear?

My Vreds always wore badly on the front outer edges - about an inch into the tread.

I ran Michelins in the summer and they were fine.

2 sets of Vreds did the exact same thing, but it was only the outer edge, so just put them on the back for the next winter.

I've just bought some Winter Contis for the L405 so will see if they fare any better

I think you hit the nail on the head, assuming your front suspension geometry is OK.

You should also consider that these heavy machines can corner quite well, but the higher the speed, the greater the tyre scrub, so driving style could/will also contribute. Regards

Braking on the turn will do it, I know this after wearing out some expensive BF Goodrich tyres that way.
I now loose my speed before a turn and drive through, lesson learned Embarassed

That's one thing I don't do. Destabilising a heavy car mid-corner is a scary thing.

I prefer to lift off the gas early and coast up, then dab the brake to adjust speed prior to turning in, but keeping the speed as high as posssible.

My driving style could also be called 'enthusiastic' Whistle but I also try not to change speed through bends.

Must be something to do with tyres / sidewalls though as the Diamaris were fine Thumbs Up

20" Contis were also well known for scrub, but the 22's seem OK

I'm going to try 255/55/20 tyres next time.

From what I've read on here, there doesn't seem to be any significant negative issue with them.

Swap them side to side before moving them to the rear.
Does mean demounting and remounting the tyres but will get the wear on both sides then and then stick the pressure in them for a laden vehicle and they will wear in the middle more to even it all out once on the rear Smile FFRR MY06 facelift With TDV8 Alloys Zeros/ATR's
