Just an update on this. I changed the car (many reasons of reliability on the old one) and the new car had the same problem with a perished anti-glare coating on the screen.

I had fingerprint wear marks on mine. Tried microfibre cloth and glasses cleaning spray. Didn't work. Two minutes of light cleaning with a baby wipe and job done. Corners and edges needed a bit of help with a plastic tip inside the wipe.
