Hi All,

I recently removed my dashboard top so that I could respray all the walnut wood piano black and also replace the navigation unit.

Since refitting it, I have noticed a squeaking coming from the dashboard top. I've located it as coming from the 8 (?) long screws which go into the dash to secure it in place. When terrain gets bumpy, these click and squeak from all sides of the dash. I have tried tightening them and loosening them but they still seem to squeak.

Does anybody know how I could address this? I don't know if new screws would help (are these available?) or if I need to put something between them and the dash to soften the friction?

Keen to sort these as I love a quiet car!

i had this, one was loose, have you rechecked them? maybe get someone to lean over and sort of hold the dash at various places to absorb the squeak. -have you had the speedo out?

Yes, I had the same problem a while ago when I had the instrument panel out to fix the pixels.

I bought new screws as I found a couple of the originals weren't biting fully after being removed a couple of times and that fixed the squeaking - they are about 30p each and the part number is FYP000341 (I think - Dan @Duckworths would be able to confirm for you) Current Fleet:-

Very lightly grease the screws. Funnily it also helps them grip.

Yes, I removed the speedo for pixel repair at the same time and when I put it all back together again two of the screws didn't 'bite' so it's probably not all latched down as tightly as it should be.

Many thanks for the details on the screws - I'll order these from Dan. Is there anything else I should do when the dashboard is apart again to reduce this ticking/squeaking?

Make sure it's locked home properly, as you push it down and back you can get some of the clips over the top of where they should go and some under...

When you take it off, look for areas where there is dust created from the plastic rubbing and squeaking, then fix what's wrong, mine has little bit's of sticky backed foam in places, these look like they have been fitted by someone trying to stop it squeaking so maybe that's an idea as well....

If all else fails, turn the radio up...  Pete

do i remember on mine, that some screws were longer than others, so some dont 'bite', or do they not enter the holes and just turn freely next to the correct hole, meaning, they are as good as 'not there' ie dangling, but not screwed? i think i did my speedo, and then the centre speaker wasnt working, then i had squeaks, then i found i had a bolt missing,, then i found it, then i took them all out and tried again.

sounds like the typical way i work...

The seven big ones on top of the dash are all the same length... Pete
