Does your Glow Plug light come on? and do you wait for it to go out before starting? It can make a difference to how quickly it all fires in to life Thumbs Up

Failing injectors normally make a hot engine harder to start than a cold one. Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

Possible air leak in the fuel pipes, intermittent glow plug timer? Tricky one that, it's sooooo annoying when it only does it some of the time Evil or Very Mad Might pay you to get it to a diesel specialist (Bosch Agent), they should be able to throw some light on it, otherwise you could be changing parts till the cows come home and still not sort it Sad Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... OOOOOO what about the immobiliser in the key? maybe the ECU is having a hard time seeing it, hopefully someone can shed some light on it. I don't know if it knocks out the whole starter system or just the fuel, which would allow it to turn over but not start. I'm sure that I read about the transducer pick up playing up on here, but don't ask me where Embarassed Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

It's just a standard 40A relay.... but it has quite a hard life.
I changed mine a while back, 70K miles, on a preventive basis and used a genuine one from Dan. When I opened up the old one I found the contacts to be burnt more than I would have liked.

No I don't have a part number for the relay unfortunately, I seemed to remember I just asked Dan for a fuel pump relay.
If you are stuck in the meantime you can always file/emery the contacts flat, they will last for a while assuming the relay still switches ok.

FYI a lot of those relays in the boot fusebox are just standard type relays, I know that the EAS is a 70 amp one. Have a look at the numbers on the terminals and check them on google, there is a very good chance that it's a std relay and you can save a few quid, by not having a landrover sticker on it Thumbs Up Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Perhaps a daft question -how do you diagnose that ? Turn the ignition on and listen for the pump, or will it run but not ideal power as relay is dodgy, or do you have to get the old voltmeter out ? 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

you can test the pump with a piece of wire with a male connector on it take the relay out and put the spade connector in the top terminal then touch it on the live red wire you can hear the pump if it is ok ,or swap relay with the next one to it to test.
