the Fuel filter is also the pressure regulator, if it's blocked up it'll cause fuel starvation, and it'll also put too much back pressure on the pump and eventually kill that. |

Well I changed the fuel filter as suggested by RR P38 and then took it for a blast - and so far so good. I can still hear the pump switching on and off, but maybe that is what it does - build up the pressure and then backs off!! Further investigation needed.

Didn't get anything out of the filter. It had obviously been changed before by previous owner because one of the collets was broken and replaced with clips and pipe. However, it had another 'moment' on Thursday so not so sure I've cured it!!

Get fuel rail pressure tested next. I think you are looking for 3.5bar. |

If your pump is on the blink, then there is a WIKI to show you the steps to change it. This v8 model does suffer from a tired pump. And my symptoms were hardly any power, and OK for a bit soon after. Then sometimes no starting etc. Ie low fuel pressure etc. You might want to measure the actual pressure via a cheap tool Via eBay etc. it hooks onto the engine fuel rail. |

All sorted! Ordered a new pump and it arrived in less than 24 hours. Using the 'wiki' info was able to fit it without too much bother - Result!
