Torque wouldn't give me a gearbox temp reading on my 2003 4.4 the other week when I did a box service, annoying as it did on my other car....

Pretty good for live data though

There is quite a lot it won't read from the OBD that the IID will... but at less than a fiver and a free App what do you expect.. It was handy when I had overheating problems but apart from that I've never used it, the IID tool beats it hands down, especially for live data on the move... Thumbs Up Pete

IIRC you have to set up a profile for it and tell it what protocol the OBD uses... ISO9141 I think!!!! Pete

Evil or Very Mad Censored Censored obd Censored Censored WRONG ENGINE Censored It doesn't talk diesel until 2004 Evil or Very Mad mines 2003 Big Cry

In the interests of maintaining sanity I have given up, with the hump, and I'm now looking for another method of measuring the engine temp real time. I might even go so far as to install a temperature gauge that reads the temp and not what it thinks I want to see. Why do they do this ? When I'm towing I need to know at what state the engine is in, if it's too hot then I can take measures to drop the temp. With the setup that I've got at the moment the engine will do itself major damage still register OK on the bloody dash. On my MG I had a capillary temp gauge, it told me how hot the engine was whether I want to know or not, there was no way to turn it off, it just did what it was supposed to, give the engine temp. Now my bloody gauge don't move between 90 and 120 C, that's a recipe for blow head gasket Evil or Very Mad

So before I take a hole saw to the dash to make room for a gauge that does what it is supposed to, can anyone help? or is the IId the only answer? I would like to gain accurate temp readings for under £50 if possible...... Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

I would be heading back to your first post and take on that which ye fears.
You are not going to freak the ecu out, all you are doing is accessing data that is already available.

The reason that most (95%) of manufacturers not putting real time temp data on display is because they dont want to alarm their customers.

Are you towing a horse float or a large boat?

If you are consistently placing high towing loads on your FF I would be getting a custom radiator made up, so that you have a greater cooling reserve. Or buy a Landcruiser (tractor)

A pro wash and flush on your cooling system might be a good idea after 13 years as well.

Im not a big fan of the oil and trans cooler running from the radiator those fluids are all operating at near on 100c all the time hence the need for synthetic oils.

Scotland 2006 Range Rover HSE Td6 Bonatti Grey

Many moons ago i had a Defender, the chap who had it before me fitted one of these (or similar)

https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/racet...gauge-t11b

There are mechanical and electric versions (some with and without backlights) - I think it would fit where the clock is? (52mm)

it was very accurate, you could see the needle move up and down as the thermostat opened and shut in traffic/ steep hills etc.

Cheers

RP

That is the same sort of thing that I had in my MGB it was a dual gauge oil and water, very accurate and never went wrong, and it was a British Leyland car Shocked Having said that, it was probably the only bit of the car that worked without problems Laughing

I'm not really wanting to loose any of the gauges in the car and I'm not really wanting to hack holes into the bulkhead to get a capillary bulb into the engine bay. So reasonably accurate electric is the way that I'm leaning, but it would be nice if there was a bluetooth temp sender out there, cos that would get around the headache of where to place the dial. There are some 37mm mini pods that look interesting, could sit on the dash and not get in the way too much. Failing that one of the really cheap stick on flat display types would be easier to deal with.

RR P38, I had a Landcruiser as a company tug, for years, they are OK, but they are very expensive on the parts over here, very thirsty compared with the ffrr, and for some inexplicable reason more expensive to buy, except when new, then they are 20k cheaper. It does not compute people Shocked

As for what I'm towing, mobile toilet blocks, 21 foot long + A frame, 8 foot wide, 10 foot tall, 2.75 to 3.5 tons in weight, depending on how used they are Shocked Shocked Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!
