I was led to believe that it was a big no no to change the bumper, by certain people on here, last year. And as a result I got the hump, shelved the idea and went about life sadly.

Now if I'm not mistaken, Pete, Buddy, you might be able to shed more light than most, although I must confess, I do not know how long it was since you did that line of work. Having said that I dare say you know a man that can answer it Thumbs Up

I thought that it was around the same time that they started all the brew ha ha about nudge bars, and I thought that it was all banned. Must confess that I didn't pay too much attention to it, as my RR Classic was way too old to effected, wish I'd followed it more closely now and that I knew the outcome. Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... There is no hard and fast rule about it, you can do anything you like to your car within the confines of it passing an MOT,

What Craig says is closest to the truth but I've never heard of anyone having problems with modified vehicles and insurance companies when it comes to accidents and I've never heard of a prosecution either... not for one minute saying someone won't give it a run at court but mostly it would cost too much to get there so they wouldn't bother...

A lot of off road equipment is sold as just that... off road.... so the seller has a perfect get out anyway...

If you hit a pedestrian with 2,500kgs of FF it isn't really going to make much difference what the front is made of, it's the transfer of energy that matters and that will be the same.... Pete

That's interesting. So you could fit a nice big bumper and say it's not to protect the car, it's for me to stand on when I'm cleaning it.....

and get a winch in it just to be on the safe side. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Right from what I can make out, is you can fit a bumper that contains a winch, and up to a 2007 car could also have Roo bars, as long as they are part of the bumper and not a bolt on extra. But that will attract too much attention, and might end up in a legal argument.

So now that the bumper is back in the pipeline, wot's all this Censored that you have to have special mounts that don't impact on impact sensors and don't attach to the bumper. Cos from what I can make out, the factory winch is attached to the sub frame and held in place by the bumper, so that would appear to be a load of old tosh. And does anyone actually know where the front impact sensor is? Rave, very helpfully doesn't even admit to one, and microcat shows one and points vaguely at the front of the car. Could be in, under, or behind the bumper and or the front wheel arch. Evil or Very Mad There are times that I miss the simplicity of my 2A LR, and then I remember the performance and the ride..... I wont be doing that again Wink Yesterday I couldn't spell Engineer... Today I are one!

There are 2 sets of rules that we need to play by down here when it comes to front bars, a: to protect the pedestrian and b: protect the driver.
Complying with a is the easy bit that involves following instructions and have a play with the welder. B, it's the tricky one, there needs to be an engineer tested report to state that the deceleration during 2 separate impacts (one fast, 60kph, one slow 14kph) is within a certain threshold when the original impact bumper (metal bit behind the plastic bumper is crashed into a wall under the same conditions. (no ffrr's harmed) all this is to demonstrate in a front on crash, the sensors will still act as normal and deploy the airbags at the right time. Apparently most failures are from the mounts being to rigid and deploying the bags to early or for a fender bender.

This is just a costly exercise due to the testing facilities.

One day..
But currently I'm flush mounting an led light bar inside the grill...should finish tomorrow, hopefully turns out as good as I think it will Haha
