Towing electrics pre-2006 vs. post-2006

I've got a Land-Rover single electrics kit on mine, but i'd like to change it to a 13pin (they're just better in every way!)

trouble is though mine is a 2004 car and no one lists the genuine harness anymore. Paddock list one for 2006 onwards cars. But what's the difference? What did they change in 2006? The towing ECU is apparently the same, the only thing i can think of is the socket where the harness connects to the main vehicle harness is different. Or the new harness is a slightly different length so has a different part number just because they've changed it in some insignificant way!

They do, however it seems to use an aftermarket ECU, rather than utilise the proper LR one, which i'd rather keep.

Just had a quick look to see if I bookmarked where I bought my kit from and I didn't, although I did come across this place http://www.lrspareparts.com/eshop/13-pin-t...-7410.html

The one they supplied is the same as the one CamTechCraig posted on another thread. It works properly. John

I've just emailed them to confirm what they're selling is the genuine part pictured and not the Britpart/PF Jones aftermarket one.

I expect they do, but i'd like to try and keep the car using OE parts if possible. I already have the original control unit with the 7 pin electrics.

The one I got from P F Jones is a Westfalia item
New ecu (same as the one for the 7 pin unit), but the loom has an extra relay in it.
Remove your 7 pin unit and fit the 13 pin unit, then sell on your old 7 pin unit.

Harness was the same from 02my-09my either in 7 or 13pin guise. The ECU from your existing kit will work on both looms sir Thumbs Up

I thought it might be, they've obviously just changed the length or colour of something slightly. So it's generated a new part number. Which they listed as 06 onwards!

Westfalia kit arrived from PF Jones today along with the farmers hitch.

Will be fitting that this week.
