I had all that when I was at school, and am very pleased it's mostly gone.

I'm from the same era as Robert and he is correct, lots of name calling. The unfortunate thing is that some kids got really hurt by it and some got stronger (I did as a glasses wearer). Even in those days kids committed suicide over that type of bullying although it hardly ever made the news, nowadays it does and that is why it is getting the attention it needs. I would hate it if my girls are getting bullied in any way shape or form and suffer because of it. We do our best to harden them against it but there is only so much you can do. That is why racism needs to be fought tooth and nail and the same with bullying, it does too much damage.

Actually the place I saw the least amount of racism (as an expat you don't see everything of course) was in Nigeria. I felt more comfortable there than I do in Holland for example. I know there are tribal differences there that go way beyond my level of understanding but on a day to day basis, we had no issues with our staff (I worked for quite a big company) in that respect. Nigerians are more respectfull towards each other and towards the people around them than I see in a lot of Western countries these days, a LOT more respect especially kids.

Anyway, I'm digressing. Pulling TG of the air is an over reaction, knee jerk and maybe intended to put pressure on Clarkson (especially if he is the production company owner as the Dutch news article claimed) to make some commercial concessions when the contract comes up. I mean I wouldn't put it past the BBC senior management to jump on this for commercial reasons as well.

As to the fracas, that needs to be dealt with in a completely unbiased internal investigation with external "judges" that are familiar with these type of issues. It should remain confidential because todays press will pull it out of context big time to serve their respective purposes. But it has to be done by a team of completely neutral people that do not work for the BBC or anything associated. Just a mediator/arbitrator familiar with workplace issues. Everybody else should stay completely out of it. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

Just think JC needs his own program on TV. He's got a head full of opinions about the world and I'd like to see him do a Michael Palin type show. The TG show format is done now, the presenters personalities are bigger than the content, think of Bruces Dancing program, who actually cares what the dance is, it's all about the judging and links, and so it is for TG, the content is lost, the audience are being drawn into the presenters. J May, like JC has a distinct TV delivery whereas Hamster is all over the place, pleasant and dumb one week then such a pain the next. It's all just too false to stomach. It's like the 3 stooges and not funny like the 3 stooges. Motoring is entering a new era, petrol is not the main thing any more, a real motoring show is needed over the next 5 to 10 years, smart. informative, intellectual and accessible. Yes I've loved top gear like so many but, you know, sometimes you just have to let go, like your flared trousers and kipper ties. It may be a case of "King TG" is dead, long live "JC".

Hopefully it will be permanent this time. Old, tired and so 1998, it's time TG was put out of its misery. No longer funny or relevant and neither is JC.

I fear you are right. But without TG, what else has the BBC got to offer? Think they will be very careful before axing the show as it brings in millions through sales to other countries and merchandise. Might end up costing us by a licence tax hike.

They've got LOADS of stuff! There's The Great British Gardening Program, The Great British Sewing Bee, Masterchef, Young Masterchef, Masterchef - The Return, and not forgetting Extreme Painting with Una Stubbs!!

I never thought I'd see the day when the BBC would put on a program about paint drying........

Oh and extreme DIY SOS!!!!

And if you put 'celebrity' before all those programme titles you double the programmes you have. Smile

Which is what they Censored do. Evil or Very Mad

Thanks Eugene for the age compliment... Mr. Green (ik ben geboren in twee en vijftig)

My tiny litlle childs soul was not damaged by all the name calling, banter and sarcasm I went through at school and in the street. If I really didn't like it we had a fight and it was done.
When children have a fight now it needs at least 5 sessions at the child psychiater and a week group sessions to talk things through. sod off!

A funny remark about mexicans, Germans, French or (ok even) the Dutch does not make anyone a racist.
When I see some one on here writing " I did not hear him use the n word" I feel we are going through a kind of Victorian period. I would say I did not hear him say "nikker". Everybody is so overly careful not to harm the childs soul that still seems to exist behind everyones forehead.
In the old days when someone had cancer (in Dutch that is written with a "k") some people would say "he had the K" just to avoid the word cancer.
Grow up... and state officials that are complaining about the fact that someone in a TV series sais "if you go there you'll have a liquid gut anyway" should seriously find something to do.

I really do not care where you come from, what your colour is, if you're a man or a woman or what you do in bed with whom. But come on, the remarks JC makes are not over the line (not for me anyway)

With a little more selfesteem people could laugh about them self and wouldn't be so quickly offended.

I feel an opportunity for Chris Evans here. He would be a perfect replacement.

JC would be forgotten in a few weeks.

Lets also not confuse PC with physically attacking someone!

Sorry, Chris Evans is an awful man. I'd hate to see him at the helm of TG. I can avoid all of his other stuff... Regards

I don't get the anti-TG comments that keep coming up. If you like the show, watch it. If you don't, don't.

I don't like Call the Midwife, so I don't watch it. I don't complain about it. If someone else likes it, fine. No problem.

Yes, JC can be pretty boorish, but he's also quite funny. I'm not sure if I'd want to invite him for tea, but he's usually worth a watch or a read. He can't be as big s fool as he seems and have recreated such a popular show, so I often think his comments are made for effect.

As for Merny Meany Miny Moe, did he ever even say the next line. I remember that rhyme from when I was a kid, and we always used "Tigger" (as in that tiger thing from Winnie-the-Poo). I was quite surprised when I found out that wasn't the original version. Shocked

to be honest I don't mind listening to Chris Evans, but don't like watching him that much on the one show.

He used to be quite juvenile on the old TFI friday, but the breakfast show on BBC R2 is pretty decent to listen to on the way to work, it beats the hell out of the local and commercial junk we get round here. I can take about 5 mins of Gem 106!! There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
