So the irony will not be lost on people who have been reading my thread about why bother having an IID tool for reading error codes!

So, today the EML light is illuminated after a cold start, repeated starts, shut downs etc and it's always there and doesn't extinguish, so I took it to my local non LR garage to have it assessed ASAP so I don't want to knacker it.

The fault codes they read were PO300, PO302, PO304, PO306 and they said it was across all cylinders (as these codes relate to "Random Multiple Misfires").

The car is driving fine and doesn't feel lumpy, no backfiring etc, and the light has stayed off now that they have cleared the fault.

I am suspicious because I know my battery is weak, if I open the doors a few times while cleaning it or whatever it's only a matter of minutes (3-5 max) before I get the message on the dash saying "Low Battery warning, please start engine". My friendly LR dealer said although it is OK, it probably is on it's way out. The battery sits at 11.8V and charges at 14.4V and on cold starts can sound quite slow.

Does anyone think that a weak battery and potential voltage issue on cold startup could have given rise to the EML and the random multiple misfires?

By the way, the Indy garage recommended changing all 8 coil packs and spark plugs at a mere £750!

Refraining from stating the obvious, so I'll state another 'obvious' reply of why not change the battery first and see what happens?

You know it's weak and it'll only get weaker as the year becomes cooler. It's an inevitable job.

and the new battery is sitting at 12.7 V cold with no charge, so I know mine is below par, and you're right, I wasn't going to leave it till the winter cold snaps to see what happens Discovery 4 HSE

Hard core RR drivers can do it under a minute

I put a Bosch S5 in mine a couple of years ago and it is starting to fail (just awaiting the warranty replacement). I get all kinds of random dash messages when the battery is low, e.g. HDC Not Working, ASC switched off, etc - all of which clear as soon as the car is putting the right voltage out.

Hi Adam, I agree with Bellini, have another look once you changed the battery  MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

Agreed battery first then read the faults ooops but you may need a reader to do that

Battery first thing to change, you know FF's like them, I would charge up your spare new battery before fitting though to give it a full charge

No tool would tell you that a battery is flat, you done that all on your own  If it dont work.......burn it!

If the IId tool cant fix it.......burn the FF.

If the FF cant be fixed......buy a Land Cruiser!

If the LC cant be fixed..............................................BUY a horse !!
