TDV8's of that vintage seem to have fragile alternators - lots of failures reported - read this thread

Mine came on, replaced the Alternator and also the battery (under warranty). No problems since and also the issues around not starting after being left for a while seem to have gone. Not been brave enough to try the FBH though Geoff |

Finally did mine earlier this year after a non starting issue at christmas, no noise or whining, just not quite putting out enough juice.

so, i left aberdeen this afternoon. The light came on after 5 miles. I accessed the diagnostics page. The volts read 12.5 - 13 all the way (120 miles)

Your alternator should be giving out more than 12.5-13V.
