quick question

Hi everyone.
as you may well know I am fitting a wheel power chair hoist in my ffrr.
I would like to know about battery disconnect procedure, as I have to fit an inline fuse and seperate live all the way
from front. Read wiki but do you leave a door open to let car shut down or doesn't it matter, as I notice when you open a door I can hear a fan running. Thanks in advance and sorry if it's been covered before.
Greg.

I'm no expert but for what its worth I do the following.

Turn off the ignition and remover the key. Open the bonnet for so you can get at the battery. Close the doors and walk away, I leave it for about 15-20 minutes then disconnect the earth lead, leave it alone for another 15-20 minutes and then disconnect the Pos lead.

By opening the bonnet early, you don't need to open the door again until well after the battery is disconnected.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for the quick reply.
Just a bit unsure as my knowledge of electrics isn't brilliant.
I will do that and thank you Thumbs Up

Don't forget when reconnecting, Pos lead first then earth. After starting the car turn the steering hard left then hard right to reset the steering.

I'm not sure if it's of any use to you but there is a permanently live 16mm2 cable fused at 100A at the rear of the car.
Would this be sufficient to feed your chair hoist?
The 100A cable feeds the rear fuseboard in the car and is generally running at nil consumption when the car is stationary which means nearly all of the 100A would be available to supply your hoist.
Using this cable would obviously obviate the need for an additional cable to the front of the car avoiding the cost and hassle involved.
What sort of power supply do you need for the hoist?

Thanks for the replys.
I was told by the chap who sold it me, to put a seperate lead in as it will isolate anything other than the
hoist thereby eliminating any possibility of trouble from the cars electrics.
I have fed the wire through and need to solder each joint. The brackets I have fabbed and welded then
bolted in, just need to adjust one.
so nearly there will do my best to take and post some pics. But I'm a bit technophobic where thats concerned.
cheers everyone such a great forum this.
Thumbs Up

Connecting into the rear cable wouldn't have caused any problems, it's a direct connection to the battery +ve terminal.
In reality it's no different to what you are doing.
Hope you get it all working successfully. Thumbs Up

Thank you everyone. The hoist is up and running.
I've lifted the power chair off the floor about 6 inches can't go anymore cus I need the correct mushroom head fittings to connect to the lifting bar. All went well with battery disconnect and reconnection afaik everything is okay just need to do a test drive.

Post a few pics up when you have done. Good to see how you have done it.

Just north of Stafford ? I spent 10 years living in Stone and another 10 living in Lightwood, before moving to Chesterfield in 2011.

Nice area to be.....
