Front air springs replacement. Short cut.

I have recently changed both front air springs.

First I did the offside with the help of a friend and following instructions from the online manual. Fortunately the nuts came apart quite easily and the job took about an hour.

Yesterday I decided to tackle the nearside. I was on my own but once again used print-outs from online manual. I couldn't see the reason for disconnecting the ball joint or removing the brake calliper (both mentioned in the manual) so didn't bother. Apart from bottom 2 nuts being very stiff (I needed a breaker bar and 3 foot long extension). The job went well.

In total I only needed to undo 6 nuts/bolts (excluding the wheel obviously). No longer FF owner but still interested. Present car Jaguar XE

I did mine last year without a manual. I didn't realise you were supposed to disconnect the ball joints and brake calipers. I didn't. The only hard part was getting the large bolts out.

I did mine a few weeks back in exactly the same way but before inflating I lowered it on to low axle stands to take the weight before starting the car up to inflate them , I would advise getting the alignment checked as you can't be 100% sure it's the same and for the sake of £30 it might save wrecking some tyres

great shortcut. I would be tempted to (when the car is back settled and the bags reinflated) loosen and re-tighten the bolts holding the arms to the subframe to ensure the pre-load is not messed up.

Thumbs Up

Steve
