Brunel or titanium

My door handles are in pretty crap state. I've seen loads of L322's with poor handles and it is obviously a common fail point. I thought I'd have a pop at painting mine before I went any further but can't decide whether to change colour. They are currently Brunel grey which is very close (but no cigar!) to my colour of Stornaway grey. I believe that 2009 on get titanium handles and I wondered if anyone had any opinions either way.

My two Penneth is that the Brunel is too close to my body colour, but I don't know if titanium will look daft against Stornaway! Arghh

Either way, if it looks crap I may get the covers you can get off ebay, or go the long hand route and replace them with new. (PITA fitting) My Previous RR's!

If they are on 2009+ why would they look daft?

Anyway I am a big titanium fan but I would change the letters too...

The handles can be tricky - there are several on here that say they can't be painted as the wax content is too high, but a mate of mine had his done a couple of years ago & they are holding up just fine.

I'd just get them colour coded to match the car - I don't think you can go wrong then Thumbs Up

Don't bother painting yours as it will probably just look as bad in a short period, as the handles have too much wax content in the plastic... Get the covers from the off... Far easier and long lasting... Thumbs Up

New Zealand 2010 Range Rover Autobiography 5.0 SC V8 Galway Green

I bought brand new ones (good offer on Ebay) and they will be installed this week. I am going to hang on to the original ones until I am in a country where they can maybe be painted in Zambezi (tried the covers and hated it).

My suggestions is to either go for new ones (mine were only 30 GBP more than the covers) or find original colour coded ones. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
Have the Faultmate MSV2 Extreme to be tinkering with the settings etc. !!

I had a go at painting them, if it does nt work will go to covers but I don't like the obvious edge you can see with them.
Got halfords to mix up the correct brunel grey, plastic primer and Matt lacquer.

Started by generally cleaning, then masking up. I managed to find in my daughters sticker collecting a sticker that was the exact size of the key hole! Masked it perfectly! Used to 1500 grit wet and dry to prep the surface. Mine had blistered badly and was very rough, need some rubbing.
Cleaned with alcohol then primed with 3-4 coats, left 24 hours before painting, I used 2500 wet and dry between coats to help smooth the finish, again 3-4 coats of paint, finally 3 coats of lacquer to try and protect the new surface. There were some very minor blemishes in the paint that can't be polished out with Matt lacquer, but generally a very acceptable finish for a home attempt.

The finished result is second picture from top. It took about 40mins to mask off, 20 mins of sanding, then the painting, so actually quite quick to do, just need to keep the car masked off for the weekend.

I'm pretty sure the handles were never titanium silver only Brunel Whistle Later 2011/2012 models all had colour coded handles including the Vogue Thumbs Up

As has been said handle covers look good, involve minimal effort and do the job nicely Thumbs Up If Craig says painting doesn't last I'd imagine he's correct! He is dealing with Rangie upgrades on a daily basis Whistle Now: BMW 640d M Sport, Alpine White
Gone: Range Rover 4.4 V8 Vogue, Zambezi Silver, Charcoal Oxford Leather
Also: Mk1 Audi TT 1.8T Quattro, Brilliant Black

Sorry to jump in, but am I better off spraying a set of covers rather than separating my handles? Maya gold isn't available in the covers so was thinking if buying a set of say java black and painting them?

Cheers
