I don't want to take sides in this argument as often as not all good arguments get a bit emotive Very Happy
But I have been using TESCO fuel (Petrol and Diesel) for many. many years in a variety of motors with no problem at all, so from me at least TESCO= Thumbs Up

I used some BG244 recently and did actually convince myself of a slight improvement when it was in the fuel but alas not after. Geoff

We had loads of problems with the BMW engine 2.0 TD4 using Sainsbury's and Morrisons mare, switched to Shell 300 miles later 90% better. I was also told that winter Diesel is even worse at the cheap stations as they do not have the winter additives in the fuel like the big players , do not know if that is true or not. Far to many gone...

As I understand it the supermarkets do not add the important additives (similar to low dose BG244) to their fuel. These additives will keep the engine internals cleaner and should really help increase the engines performance, mpg and life expectancy over the long term.

Your choice but as a dealer I never use supermarket fuel. Regular water contamination and cheaper bottom of the tank purchases are also rumoured.

You are driving a top end machine why take the chance just to save pennies. Your choice though.

Always use BP ultimate.

Have had to use other fuels (like BT normal and supermarkets) on occasions and always notice the difference. The engine does not run as smooth or have as much power or torque. Obviously, thats opinion rather them imperial testing but my GF once filled it up with standard and didn't tell me and I asked her within a few hundred meters what she had put in as it felt strange.

May be mostly hype but many main dealers will recommend the premium on occasions to try and keep the injectors clean (of course you could just add red x).

I won't get involved in the quality debate, but I need to say that I resent the suggestion I buy supermarket fuel to save a few pennies - is that not assumptive snobbery? I go to TESCO because it's the nearest by miles, I drive a diesel because I don't like going to TESCO (or any other filling station) so often.
If I wanted "to save a few pennies" I really Censored up with my car choice Very Happy

Actually I'm not really bothered at all but I've nothing better to do Very Happy Geoff

^ My meaning was that the extra spent could actually save you a lot more than pennies in the long run. I accept that Premium fuel may not be easily available to all though. Neutral

Up until retiring 3 years ago I used to cover 35000 miles a year with a new vehicle every 3 years all done on Morrisons diesel and none of my engines missed a beat. Agueroooooooooo. 93-20

My opinion is that short term your unlikely to notice anything on a new engine. It long term that the deposits build up in the injectors and other parts of the engine. The additives should help to keep these clean and other parts lubricated according to the spiel. I tend to agree.

Another vote for premium fuel. I'm another advocate of Shell Nitro+.

That said, there's a lot of Shell garages around where I live and on my route to work. I generally don't look at fuel prices as I'm not intelligent and have a lousy memory but the supermarkets are a decent and unpleasant detour for me, so any small pecuniary advantage is completely lost.

But, regardless of the above, I won't use supermarket fuel. Si. <This is my name.

My local Shell is often cheaper than local supermarkets and this is confirmed by the fuel price app. Anyway it's not about which is cheaper it is about which is better foe the engine given a free choice.
