Jo 90,

I have the same rust as your photo......

I have had it re sprayed twice and thought it was mud and moisture getting behind the arch liner and causing it. seems you guys are saying its cused by the water that gets in the spare wheel well occasionally. i;ve tried removing my boot door seal, siliconed all of the seams and replaced... no effect. i think i might have to take the rear bumper off to try sealing around there. I cannot seem to get at the sunroof drains? They also seem quite far removed from the rear quater pannel / boot? MY2010 TDV8 Vogue Ipanema Sand

Hope the rust spot doesn't get worse, are you 100% sure you don't have water perhaps under the tyre?

I had a quick look this morning before the rain to see what's going on. The fabric on the left side was bone dry, under the tyre it was like sea world aquarium.

I have noticed the fabric on the left is only wet when it rains for more than ~30min and when the hatch is lifted up I get a small river coming down. My guess is water builds up at the top then seeps in through the rubber seal, slowly finds it's way down the fabric on the left past the amp and into the spare wheel compartment.

For now I have cleaned all the water out, cleaned up and laid some newspaper to see if that gets damp, I guess the water under the wheel built up over time. New rubber seal me thinks!

under rear tailgate hinge is a hole!!!!
No gasket!!
clean with toothpaste and cover with silicon sealant.
no more water in my sat nav or amplifier
replaced sat nav and repaired the amp before ripping out headliner to find actual leak.

Real pig the hinge leak. I recommend to clean and smother the hinge with silicon.
You can not see hole from above but it must be there as since I covered with silicon no water ingress.
what were LR thinking off not putting a gasket there.
