Understood key correct cutting is more critical than sync which managed to be done by all.
So for testing/ensuring first of all blade's correct cut/shape wondering if will cut blade and put transponder in ,but not sync, will start the car or not???
Sync is only for remote locking/unlocking doors/etc???
ok completely ignorant in this respect Embarassed

*update*

Been to the 'matrix' and the key cutting guy has said theres nothing wrong with the key itself, it turns the door lock so should turn the ignition lock however the ignition lock is operated by a solenoid and if the chip dont talk to the solenoid then it aint going to turn it. He has told me to put the chip in the new key housing and temporarily put the cirucit board from my original key into it as well and then try turning it in the ignition. I have to report back to him next week when I can get there again, also he told me he can get the same quality blanks for the flip style keys if needs be.

@Mustard,

It should be possible to lay the original key and chip next to the ring of the ignition, then turn the key. The range of the RFID chip is about 2"

Good luck!

Thumbs Up

He's talking rubbish. Mostly.

The door locks (Access Control Systems as they were called when I worked for Rockwell who make most of them) tend to have fewer tumblers than the ignition - in the old style keys, the door locks would 2 or three tumblers and the ignition barrel would have 5 (or more).

It's entirely down to the cutting I'm afraid - he's made a boo-boo and won't admit to it - in my book that's worse than being incompetent - as he's compounding his stupidity with lies.

Probably all it needs is another run through the machine to clean up the edges of the slots.

Have you tried the key both ways round, and pressing it down firmly before trying to turn it?

*Another update*

Tried the original key sitting next to the ignition barrel, it does initiate all the clicking etc so whilst leaving the key there I then popped the new flip style key in and tried to turn it, solid, press down and try turn it, solid, try the other way, solid......nothing left to try so got out and shouted at the dam thing Laughing

@Steve I would hold fire going to this guy as you could end in my situation x 2 = out of pocket double Big Cry

Waaaaaaaaaaa Dam it Waaaaaaaaaaaa Laughing

Find somewhere else and see if they can just run the cutter along the same key (re-cutting it) to see if it's just because the first cutters cutting tool is worn and not exactly duplicating the original key.

Im close to giving up and throwing it in the bin to be honest, I had no idea it would end up this difficult, the problems I had to start with in just finding a key cutter who would do it was totally unreal and this 1 guy was literally the only 1 I could find Big Cry

I was lucky - Timpsons said no, so I just spoke into my phone using Google - "Key Cutter near me" and the first bloke listed was 200 yds from me! Went in and he was a bit cautious as he'd had bad experiences with 'eBay" keys - told him I'd not hold him responsible and he did the job!

Try asking Google?

mustared Exclamation Exclamation
a word of warning, if you use the chip out side the key be very careful as when the ignition sees the chip and the ignition is turned on the rolling code will start, if when it rolls and the chip is noy close enough it will lock out that chip and would not be recognised by the EWS,

mustard if when you put the key in you here the click the problem is the key cutting for sure.

the machine they use is a cult and like all machines it need to be set up, the endmill or cutter copies the peg on the other side and if not set right even know it could be small it will not work. V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Question

If i strip out the innards of my original blade style key, leave them in the house and try the blade in the ignition on its own to see if it turns or not will I cause myself any issues ? I need to prove a point to this guy but not if its gonna cost me a fortune if it goes wrong
