TDV8 cold Start missfire

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum having recently purchased a RR TDV8 Vogue SE. Really love it, sadly had to sell my faithful Defender 90 CSW to help out but needs must.
So my Rangie has a problem that is only ever from cold. On start up all seems fine initially. I put it into gear and drive down the road for a few hundred yards. As I brake and come to a halt I can feel the missfire and notice the rev counter bouncing up and down. When I pull away and apply throttle I cannot feel it but when I am stationary it returns. Once the temp gauge lifts out of the blue the problem disappears.
I removed the cover from the engine and noticed a diesel leak from the fuel return pipe on cyl no4, I bought a kit and replaced it as the O ring had failed (horrible job!) This has not made a difference.

Any help would be very welcome.

p.s. I should add that I do not have any check engine light issues and no other symptoms i.e. engine not smoking etc....

Welcome along!

A cold misfire could be many things. My TDV8 was idling a bit roughly and it was diagnosed as a possible EGR fault.
Rather than have them replaced (not cheap), I tried a diesel additive and it seems to have made a difference. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Usually EGR based, can also be injectors... Even if there is no light on the ECU's can still hold codes so get the codes read first my friend Thumbs Up

Thanks for the reply.

Having read other posts on here the EGR is a tough one to replace? Equally if it was the EGR would the fault not occur more often?
I spoke to my local LR agent and I was told "they do that!" Brilliant...

They cost about £200+ each (there are 2) and take about 4 hours to replace.

From what I've experienced, it was only on start up, and even then, not every time.
