On a previous bmw forum, we had a sticky post where members would detail their location and detail which sections of diagnostics they could help with.

It was really good as it got members meeting up etc and saved people a few quid. People did it for free and some charged beer money to help pay a little toward the burden of buying the equipment in the first place.

Could we do something similar on this forum if members are willing to offer their time to plug other people cars in?

I know i would travel to a member if in need to a code read etc.

Just a thought. comments welcome.

I will be buying one in a few weeks and once I'm confident in using it I will gladly help anyone as I have done for free for years with vw's.

I've had a few more important bits to buy first to get the FFRR to my liking.

most members with diagnostic tools ie IIDTool, allcoms etc will have them vin locked so not much use to any one else's range... there are a few with multi license tools though.. ... - .- -.

Good point stan I forgot about the vin locked devices.

We've got the full Land Rover Factory Diagnostics (Testbook) and all the cables that will do any Rover/Land Rover up to 2006. So as long as it'd before they changed to the later style electrics I'm happy help.

All-coms and Hawkeye are locked to one vehicle type only not Vin number so can be used across the range, obviously taking account of the vehicle year.

@ dhallworth do you charge, beer tokens or tea boy duties etc.

Anyone charging for this would have to be covered by a site sponsor/supporter agreement

Have never charged anybody for helping out but have received the occasional beer token as a good will gesture when people won't let me refuse it.
