Just what you don't need at the start of a road trip

F'in dead battery.

Not used it for a week or so. It's parked in the garage without the alarm on. Opened the door this morning and the interior light didn't come on so put it on charge.

This evening, still completely dead.

Found a guy selling one but he's not in until midnight.

Tomorrow I'm on a road trip with trailer to the UK.

AAAARRRRGGGHHH.

What's mega annoying is the battery is under warranty, so I'm likely to end up with two batteries.

Also, the battery side is against the wall. Not sure I'll be able to fit it by myself. Big Cry

Well, got the old one out. Pretty easy actually - with access mode (thanks for the tip - but I knew about it), and by standing on the wing to lift it out.

Just need this guy to phone me when he's back to pick up the new one.

No chance of me going in the other car. It's a shopping trip and my 3500kg trailer will be full on the way back. The VX220 doesn't even have a tow bar. Laughing

The battery is FIAMM by the way. It's had a tough time starting her sometimes when I had a dodgy injector, but it's still only 15 months old.

Anyway, I'm sure the trip will go ok - but thanks for the concern. Thumbs Up

What's this bonnet access mode? I assume its something that gets the bonnet a good bit higher than normal for better access to the battery location? 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11

^ Yes. You undo the clips on the gas struts and pull the struts off. Lift the bonnet higher and there's a lever to slide out that holds the bonnet in a vertical position. Can't see you getting the battery out any other way, though doubtless someone has.

Well, the guy with the battery said he'd be in at 1:15am, so I said I'd be there. He told me to bring cash, which I did. It seemed like some drug deal, cash changing hands in the middle of the night, but he was very nice and gave me a receipt and a 3 year warrenty.

Just put it in and starts up no problem. Road trip back on schedule. Just need to get some kip first!

Thanks for the top tip. I actually tried the extended bonnet opening thing out today, only I completely removed the strut clips. Didn't realise you could just slide them down.......I know now though.
Thanks. 4.4 TDV8 Vogue Baltic Blue MY11
