Never heard of any problems with them, how many miles has your FFRR done? |

Tensioners maybe, but only if a fault develops. Chains should last forever as far as I know. Never seen a thread in 2 years that I can remember about a faulty chain... Prepared to be shot down tho'..

Good news then. something that doesnt need done mines on 152k. changed the crank breather filter last week. still got antifreeze to change and diff and transfer case oils then that will be all the fluids changed. '04 td6 se

Same as wats, but I'm on 99k miles. Just gave the old girl a service and got diff and transfer box oils to do. Got the oil ready just waiting for a few consecutive dry days so I'm not out there laying on my back in 3ft of sodding water |

Wet jeans and jumper was bad enough on Monday afternoon when we gave the old girl an oil and filter transplant.. One word of advice though, ensure the full to the brim washing up bowl used to catch 8.75 litres of old oil is pulled from under FFRR before heavy handed mate lowers the jack.

Some years ago I was changing the oil in a large old Blackstone powered generator that was in the basement of a telephone exchange. It took just over 400 litres of oil, and it had - rather conveniently - a pipe that led from the car park above to make the oil change easier. With the help of a first year apprentice, we pumped the old oil up the pipe into some empty drums, then proceeded to pump the new oil back into the engine. One of us at the engine, and one upstairs so everything was under control. After pumping in 2 x 200 litre drums of oil into it, the apprentice checked the oil level - the dipstick went in the same hold we were filling it from. He came upstairs to inform me that another 20 litres should do it, an so I pumped 20 more litres down the pipe while the apprentice slipped outside for a smoke. We went back down to the engine to find the apprentice had NOT put the hose back in the engine and we now had 20 litres of shiny new oil spreading out in a huge pool across the floor...

Changing the oil on my MGBGT once, I thought "let's use an old 5 litre plastic can to catch the oil" and proceeeded to cut a suitable hole in the side with a stanley knife. Whoops, slipped, and knife straight through jeans and into right knee joint! Ow! Fortunately I had not drained the oil, so was able to jump in the MG and drive (somehow) to A & E. Doctor took a look by poking finger deep into knee to see how much damage I had done! Ow again! Several internal and external stitches later i was released home.
