Got the bosch battery everything worked ok last night. Won't start again..! Iid says immobilizer- B1103 enable crank relay short to ground or relay open..

What does that mean..? I'm getting it towed to garage , waiting on breakdown service..

This sounds spot on, I just got the car started before tow company came out.ok this may sound like a ridiculous question but can I just spray some contact cleaner into the ignition or will that f Question k something up ..just to try it .

I tried, just that you can not do get the product into the ignition, the contacts are on the side, you have to remove the butt of the lock
Thumbs Up

From searching the forum I have nailed the intermittent starting problem down to 2 possibilities:-

1 ignition relay immobilser issue
2 starter solenoid

So when it won't start again ill try whacking the starter, that should give me my answer. Ill keep you posted Thumbs Up

Hi Lolo

On 2006 TD6, there is no external relay between the immobilizer and the starter solenoid. The immobilizer directly controls the starter solenoid.

The most probable cause is either a defective starter solenoid, a bad connection at the solenoid or a defective immobilizer (internal relay). Keep in mind that a defective immobilizer is highly unlikely.

-Bad connection: Look for corrosion on wires at the starter solenoid. Remove clean and sand if necessary.
-Bad solenoid: Use the hammer trick to test the starter solenoid.
-Bad immobilizer: When the problem occurs, verify that you have 12 V going to the starter solenoid when the key is turned to the starting position. You can either measure this at the immobilizer itself or at the starter solenoid.

Cheers!

Hi Patrick,

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

I will pass that info onto the mechanic. I don't think he hasnt a clue but I do think he would rather be doing some nice easy oil changes etc on the other cars he has in his custody!

As far as I can recall when I cranked the car, there was no power to the starter. All connections seem good and also did but the starter to check.

My issue is the same as Johnte's on this post which also turned out to be the ignition:-

Hi Lolo

My pleasure!

"I will pass that info onto the mechanic. I don't think he hasnt a clue but I do think he would rather be doing some nice easy oil changes etc on the other cars he has in his custody!" Plausible!

In your case it cannot be the ignition switch. A defective ignition will cause the same cranking problem than Johnte had but you won’t have this fault code: B1103 enable crank relay short to ground or relay open.

The immobilizer receives the cranking command correctly from the switch but the starter refuses to turn. The problem is between the immobilizer and the starting solenoid.

Cheers!
