Hello, researching first FF purchase.

Hello to everyone on here.
I have been on here for a little while now whilst getting the money together. I have done a lot of research already, and know the areas to look closely at (well i think at least). I am not a wealthy person, just save hard, i do 350 Miles a week to work and back and make my own fuel, this keeps costs down, i am an ex mechanic with VAG and know about the likely hood of a gearbox failure. But i guess most importantly of all i have wanted one of these for about 5 years now.

I am looking for a td6 post face lift either vogue or preferably a vogue se. i have 15k tops im not bothered about mileage more condition and service history. And i run biodiesel, if i didnt i would have gone for the 4.4v8.

There are a couple of questions i have though, as i have yet to test drive any. At 80mph, does the td6 feel like it needs a 6th gear (what rpm is it doing?) or is it still nice and relaxed? (of course 80 being over the limit in the uk, its only for when im on the autobhans). And secondly should i even be buying now? with the new 405 coming out soon and being winter should i get a cheap car until feb or march time when the prices have come down, and then get the tdv8?

70 mph is 2500 rpm.........

The tdv8 is a better engine and box..........but is more complicated and more expensive to buy.

I am well happy with my td6.............

have a look at motorseeker in Chesterfield - got mine from there. They have a web site. can't paste properly on ps3 sorry 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

80 is ok, i tend to dawdle around the 65 mark. Annoys the feck out of people but gives better (for a FFRR) fuel consumption. As you are handy with the spanners, not much to worry about.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I am really looking forward to getting one. I also love to tinker, so there will be some mods when funds allow (mot the chrome and big wheels type mods though : roll: ) I have noticed that the 4.4v8 diffs are a different ratio to the td6 so may be a cheapish mod if the engine is capable.

Looking at it the tdv8 is just out of my price range and too dear to run for me at the min (460 a year to tax Big Cry and the increase in insurance)

Just a couple of things - you may already be aware of them, but if you are getting an older example, or one with higher miles, there are likely to be a few service items needing to be done. As you're handy with the spanners, then they will be a doddle to do, but you may be able to knock a few quid off the purchase price when you start to bargain.

Front air springs - easy job and about £220 each. They are on borrowed time if they have more than 100,000 miles on them. Front disks, easy and cheap, but they do chew out fairly regularly. In line fuel pump also gives up the ghost about the same miles. You already know about the transmissions, so I won't go there.

I have found these vehicles really nice and easy to work on - compared to the old Classic RR I have... Laughing

These points may help you to bargain down the price on a potential purchase. Hope you find the right one - you will love it. Very Happy

Oh, and at 80MPH, it is just hitting its straps. Mine loves it at those speeds. Seems much more at home at 130 to 140 Kph (80 to 85 mph) than it does at 100 kph, and won't run out of puff until your well on the wrong side of 160 kph (100mph).

Heh heh, no problem.

I was originally after a 2008 VSE, but now I'm considering getting a 2010 model, as I've grown to like the facelift and I think the TFT screen is automotive pornography.

I must admit to being a little put off last weekend. I was at a course with someone who works as a manager at Land Rover Solihull. We were discussing Range Rovers and e asked what I thought of the L405. I said it was growing on me and he said it's worth it's money. He told me a few things about it, including that is has SIX batteries!

When I asked him 'what about the L322?' he just shook his head. Shocked Researching my first Range Rover purchase

Yeah, I took what he said with a pinch of salt.

A friend of a friend (aren't they always!) also used to work for LR, and said they used to use chewing gum to fill chassis holes. That scared me at first too, but I hear great things about all the FFRRs in this forum, so I decided to follow my heart. Researching my first Range Rover purchase
