There have been a few postings on here about running an S/C below the 1/4 tank - something to do with the tank having a "saddle" where it goes over the rear transmission and the lift pump get exposed, or something like that. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes |

Hi Tim, I remember those posts but I run well below quarter tank on a regular basis. I was thinking it could be that my secondary pump (the pump that pumps the petrol across the "hump") may just have failed yesterday causing the issue. So next time I am running near quarter tank I will keep an eye on it. To be honest I have had a few instances where I thought it was happening but it didn't last and it doesn't always happen. Maybe the pump is slowly failing or it is the crap I suspect is in the tank. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!

I have replaced the pump on an SC as its a common problem with the secondary "Jet" pump that pumps the fuel from the 2nd saddle over to the 1st when tank is low (1/4 or below) and fuel becomes separated into two tanks by the dividing hump.

Hi guys, thanks for the quick response. Since it happened straight after a "spirited" right turn, it could have been that all the fuel left on the right-hand side, where the main pump is (if I am correct), jumped over the hump and couldn't make it back (no power to make any spirited left turns |

I had this problem in mine when I first got it but it seems to be ok now. I regularly run it down below 1/8th of a tank and have no problems. If I let it run right down the engine stutters just before the fuel light comes on, which is handy. The range indicator always says I have another 40 miles or so left in the tank but I don't believe that any more! |

@NKSC, this is the first time this happened to me, I have been down to the light on fuel before without running out. So I will fill up earlier in the future and try to get a "safe" petrol tank of 10 liter in Holland to keep in the back just in case.

Guys, if you regularly run your tank very low, you WILL need a new pump sooner or later, so you have been warned! |

Hi Boz, I agree and won't do it anymore if I can avoid it (i.e. no fuel shortages). Will keep it at least 1/8 but preferably 1/4 full. MY 2010 5.0 SC Galway green and sand interior!!
