You noticed?

I was quite baffled at first as the owners manual for both the TD6 car and the TDV8 car had the same instructions i.e. to connect the leads to the two specially adapted terminals in the engine bay and NOT on the pyrotechnic battery terminal device! Exclamation

As it turns out, the TDV8 doesn't have the extended Positive terminal in the engine bay so you have to connect it to the battery directly. It also appears not to have that pyrotechnic device any longer. Shocked

If they make these changes, why the Censored don't they update the owners manual to reflect it? Discovery 4 HSE

unsure if the newer years has however it is as far as i know the final stage relay for the heating and air con

it controls when the blowers are powered up and when they switch off, the school of thought is that they sometimes fail to give the correct switching and the heater blowers dont switch off or continue to switch on and off at regular intervals. the result of this is the battery taking a hamering and eventualy giving up and failing when you need it most. a newer model of the relay was brought out and instead of being plastic it is now with metal conducting plates in an odd shaped triangle.

it is very easy to change, but is easily as awkward to change you will find it in the drivers footwell after the the centre trim has been removed and the trim around the pedals has been taken off (star drive needed) it is right in the corner almost were the center console equipment reaches the front bulkhead. it will clip out and takes about 20 min to locate change and put back together

i can get the part number if you require, my stealer told me that they never change these and the parts guy mentioned that they get through verry little of these items however they had 4 on the shelf?????

i was not sure that it was the fault and i changed the bty as it was absolutly well and truly used to it life end, however i did have a run of intermitant flat battery before i changed them both and none since so i cant say it was it for defo but for a cost 100 quid or so for the battery and around 50 for the relay i have had (touch wood) no starting problems ever since 02 Range Rover HSE Zambezie silver 4.4

Well i forgot to nip to LR yesterday and was greeted to a flat battery this morning!

Took it out for a good run however its now dropped the suspension on its arse and causing all sorts of weird and wonderful warnings on the dash.

Its dropped the car so far the tyres rub the arch! Looks like it'll be sat on the drive tomorrow while i get a new battery.

Halfrauds just quoted me £200 !!!! Typically ive left it to a Sunday afternoon Sad TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

they quoted me £150 for a Bosch last week!

this might help :-

this is the Batt I got, they recommended this for all FFRR...

£110 ex VAT fitted

it is 920 amps whereas the std OEM LR battery was 850A - kicks the engine into life like a mule wander if it will last the 5 year warranty out though...

Just bought mine at LR this morning for £110.

I was quoted £90-£100 at motor factors so thought for a few quid more I'd go OEM.

The cheaper ones had lower amps than standard too Sad TDV8 HST Sport **Current**

that was a good deal, they quoted me £99, but this was ex VAT and they wanted £25 ex VAT to fit

My original flat battery saga continues-flat again this morning would not even turn engine over, found out later that radio had lost all its stored stations so must have been really down. Called LRA and AA man arrived in 20 mins-good service. He tried a booster start but nothing, then jumped started which eventually worked after leaving cables on for about 10 mins. Tested battery and charging said all ok. then when shut engine down and locked up car it was still drawing 7 amps after 15 mins.
Restarted and shut down agin and within a minute car went to sleep ok.Went to local stealers who did not seem very concerned, as usual, car booked in in 2 weeks time to be fully checked. Asked them what to do if happened again they said ring LRA, What GREAT service on a £70K car!!! Ex D1, D2, D3 owner now 2008 TDV8 Vogue SE

A combination of using the pre-heater with only short journeys in between, has led to a couple of occasions where the car would not start due to a drained battery. The manual states that the heater should shut down if the battery charge drops too low, but it seems this did not happen until it was too late to conserve enough juice to start the engine.

Anyway, it has just been into the dealers (for 3 days of testing!! - lots of charging and discharging tests) and eventually failed a battery test ... so a nice gleaming new battery has been fitted under warranty. Vehicle is 20 months old.

Bet you went to Brock, as they did not seem bothered, I get the same treatment, even after speaking with the DP.
Try Hillendale, bit further but woth it, IMO.
