IanV8 - I have tried varifocals and personally found them tiring when driving because the field of vision is V shaped (resonable width at the top for distance vision, but very narrow at the bottom for looking at your dashbaord/ sat nav). So after lots of arguing at Specsavers I went for bifocals (distance and mid - the reading distance for me is too close to be of use in the car) with the smallest/narrowest possible bi-focal element at the bottom of the glasses - the result is fantastic for driving with wide distance focus achieved by just moving your eyes not your head and the same for dashboard/ sat nav screen (compared to varifocals that I had previously).
