I've certainly known about this for a long time. It's not a mistake or database error.

I had to declare a windscreen repair when I renewed my insurance a couple of years ago, it appears in the drop down box in the comparison sites as well. I can’t imagine not declaring it would invalidate your insurance, but it’s not worth the risk for a few £.

Whilst I agree that a claim is a claim. The insurance companies make a big deal that a windscreen repair won’t impact your NCD, clearly they do. Simply having that claim on the Industry database, resulted in me having to answer the question about having claims in the past five years, in the positive box. Resulting in the new insurer wanting £65 more premium. They make the rules, they should stick to them. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.

Most people don't understand NCD. All claims even if you claim against someone else in a no fault situation raise your premium as you are now concidered by the insurers algorithms as being a higher risk. Given that your ins is now going to be loaded for the next 5 yrs you can see why it's cheaper not to make any claim on your ins unless you have no choice. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322) |

It doesn't affect your NCD - you still get the same level of discount, it is just deducted off a higher amount! Example: £1000 premium less 65% discount is £450.00 £1145 premium less 65% discount is £515.25 The base premium has increased by £145 due to a claim, but the NCD is still the same, resulting in a £65.25 increase in your payment. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom |

Had exactly the same issue for a chip repair from Admiral, 10 quid cost to have it repaired by autoglass but when I got my proof of no claims when switching insurers the claim was listed for the chip. New insurer still stuck with the same price though when I submitted the proof of no claims. 2021 P400 Silicon Silver AB

I had the same with the AA Insurance when it came to renewal time i had a claim on my renewal after a repair and they said it was correct so it will be the last repair i have i would rather pay the £70 every couple of years and turn the chip into a new windscreen as the screen picks up plenty of other marks that makes it look rough. |

So it seems to me, don’t bother to try to save the screen with a repair. Just as Jon said, make them pay for a whole screen every few years, at least you get hit for a real repair/claim. Insurance companies shooting themselves in the foot. 2013 SDV8 4.4 SE Luxor.
