Battery Voltage - charging - CTEK

I am just wondering about battery voltage. I fitted the car with the CTEK connector with indicator attached to the jump start terminals under the bonnet. When I check this it is often red.

Red: means the battery charge is below 12.4 V. It’s definitely time to charge the battery.
Yellow: means the battery charge is between 12.4 and 12.65 V. It’s time to start thinking about charging the battery.
Green: means the battery charge is more than 12.65 V. OK! No need for charging.

Today I did check with a multimeter. The indicator correct, I need to charge.

Have a MXS 5.0 TEST&CHARGE which I leave on overnight. Last weekend I also did this and the end result was the same.

2 Questions:
1. Can the points under the bonnet be used for charging? I am sure they are but want to be 100% sure.
2. Is the MXS 5 not enough and do I need to get MXS 10? SDV8 AB MY 2020

I use an MXS 5.0 on the underbonnet terminals and it works perfectly. 2017 SDV8 Autobiography

Thank you for that. I have it on charge overnight and during the day tomorrow. I will check the voltage in the morning and see where it stands. SDV8 AB MY 2020

Same here concerning the MXS 5.0 and the under bonnet posts. I sometimes find I need to leave the car on charge for a couple of days before it reaches the fully charged state. Kev

OK.. Voltage after 11 hours is 12.34V - charger connected and running. I don't need to drive the car until tomorrow so I will leave on charge. I am wondering if my charger has a issue, I will ask my friends to see if I can borrow another one. SDV8 AB MY 2020

So when I connected the multimeter just now it is still reading 12.34V. The charger said in was in the Float stage and in the manual it says 13.6V. So I think my charger has the issue. If anyone has a multimeter I would be interested in their voltage reading on the terminals. SDV8 AB MY 2020

I have a little BM2 battery monitor across my primary battery that constantly logs my battery voltage and uploads the results to my phone whenever I walk near the car.

On the 19th October, I had my MXS 5.0 connected from about 8:00, as you can see from the below.

You can see that between 08:00 to 14:00 the charging algorithm ramps up the voltage to around 14.5V. After 14:00, it drops down to around 13.6V and this voltage is maintained.

Here's the log from today, as you can see my battery voltage at rest, without a charger connected is about 12.6V.

I agree with you. Your charger looks like it isn't operating correctly. Kev

I had an MXS 5 fail after many years of use. It would only display battery voltage and showed no signs of charging. Bought a couple of ALDI chargers, never had any problems to date. Thumbs Up

You should measure battery voltage in the battery (remove the spare tire), not in the jump starter connections under the bonnet. The jump starer connections don't show it. Ask me how I know😂
