My guess would be the motor that drives the range change on the xfer box.

Thanks for reply.. Yeah past owner only ever used it for motorway driving and it has never been off road...Ive got plans to get it muddy so I'm definetly needing to sort it out |

I have to say, I put mine in low range just to go up and down our (steep and long) drive every couple of months - it's not needed, but I figure it helps to turn it over every now and then |

As said above the problems are down to a ring shaped rheostat in the shift motor. There is a thread on here about it but I can't find it at the moment....

I'm going to have to get mine taken off and have it bench tested...will have to make it a priority as I'm heading up north for xmas and the low range will be of great use...also panicking incase it gets stuck in low range ..will do a search for a company that will refurbish my old unit...im sure I've read a post in here about it... |

The problem is the potentiometers are the part which fails and these seem to be specific to this unit and No one has successfully found a replacement afaik. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Cheers..its the same lot I've linked..definite priority now...has anybody replaced their own? Looks easy enough ! Getting the thing back on looks a bit tricky though! I'm loving working on my ff just now but this is out my comfort zone a wee bit |

i think it is in rave and also on youtube, you have to careful about how you remove as there is a part that can be moved either in or out when the motor is removed which will get the transmission confused and if you push it in you cant get it back out without removing the transfer box....
