In the last week or so I have noticed a number of oily patches on the drive under the front of the RR. The oil looks quite clear, at first I thought it was water from the AC, but it doesn't dry and stains the drive. The drive is sloped and the RR faces engine down. I have had a quick rummage under the car and the drip trays look clean and oil free and I can see no leaks around the engine. The AT sump pan though is wet and I assume that the leak is probably from the rear around the sump plug.

I need to get it booked in to get it sorted but my wife needs to use it in the meantime which is slightly concerning. Anyone had similar issues and know what the problem might be. Is it safe to drive for a few days do you think?

I recently spotted oil round the front of the AT sump and feared another cracked sump, but it was engine oil seeping down from the cam covers. Will be fixing this week and will confirm.

Not an easy question to answer I'm afraid... There are many many areas above there that can leak and drip down, many more in front that can leak and spray over there when the car is in motion! So, could be as simple as seepage from the drain (small problem) to a major leak up front masked by the sump protectors being thrown back to the gearbox...

Can you drive it? Well sir, thats for you to decide... I wouldn't!

The sealing sleeve for the Mechatronic unit electrical connector is a very common site for fluid leaks on the 6HP26

Can these simply be replaced Phil? Does the fluid need draining first? Are they a LR part?

Yes, unfortunately the fluid has to be drained and the sump pan/filter removed to provide access to the retention clip

The Land Rover part number for the sleeve (including its three seals) is TZV500010 and it costs under a tenner.

having had the car up on the ramp it seems to be leaking from the front of the sump pan, gasket most likely. Am I correct in thinking that the pan itself is plastic of some sort? Is it a consumable item then? I assume I should replace the sleeve as well at the same time.

when Craig did mine he showed me the pan and it is plastic..its crucial to tighten the bolts in the correct way and the correct torque... ... - .- -.
